I went to France for my Honeymoon and was determined to stick to my current diet as well as I could, while having to occasional croissant. I have been a plant-based eater for 3 years now, but I try to stick to a 90-10 way of eating. I leave that 10% for those life events that come up, like a birthday party or meal at grandma's house that you know would hurt her feelings if you didn't try it. That is the approach I took when travelling to France. I wanted to stay as plant-based as I could while still enjoying my experience, and feeling like I was appreciating the culture.
What I thought was going to be a very challenging undertaking ended up being quite simple. We travelled to Nice, Antibes, Annecy, and Chamonix over our 11 day trip. I used an app called Happy Cow before we left to try to plan out a few meals. Nice had plenty of entirely plant based restaurants, and most restaurants had vegetarian and vegan options. Our meals in Nice weren't just plant-based, but they were some of the most delicious meals I have ever had.
Where I am from in Ohio we don't have any completely plant-based restaurants within an hour drive. When I am travelling somewhere that does have a completely vegan restaurant I get very excited. Over the years I have learned to read menus and know what I can and cannot order, but it makes for a much better experience when I can sit down and know I don't have to read any of the ingredients or bother the server with questions. Below I have listed the restaurants we ate at that were completely plant based during our trip. Keep in mind, these are the restaurants we found based on where we travelled to during our honeymoon. I am sure there are MANY more options in other parts of the country as well.
